Venus Williams is the Ladies Wimbledon Champion for 2008 beating her younger sister Venus Williams again in 2 straight sets at 7-5 and 6-4 to make this her 5th Wimbledon title.

Its been 5 years since the two Williams sisters met each other in the finals and Serena was defending her title and this year the betting odds were tipping slightly in the favour of Serena taking the title with Sportsbetting.com,  listing Serena at 2-1 to win in two sets and at 5-2 to win in three sets. Venus is listed at 11-5 to win in two sets and at 11-4 to win in three sets.

Serena played some superb matches to reach the final and in our opinion had the edge this year over Venus, but Venus won the day and showed that its the final match and result that matters and she wins the coveted Wimbledon title for a fifth year unbeaten by all of the worlds best thrown at her. The above picture of Venus Williams shows a player with superb gymnastic ability, powerful serves, rapid court coverage and domination with the stamina and determination to see the game through with a winning conclusion.

Venus Beats Serena- Wimbledon 2008 Women’s Finals

The next Grand Slam that follows Wimbledon is the US Open with the qualifying tournaments starting on August 19 2008.

The main ladies championship normally eclipses the Junior Ladies championship but a young British player called Laura Robson has caught our attention and has managed to reach the final being held on No1 court.  She’s only 14! The new talent of tomorrow. No photos available but see wimbledon.org for further details.
