Avatar was in town last night, not a photocall, not a press conference or a tiny exclusive private screening but a full blown World Premiere and the James Cameron epic, gigantic budget futuristic animation that is “Avatar” was in London’s Leicester Square and the red carpet was blue!

Being billed as “The Film of the year” by the media, with female stars including Sigourney Weaver of Aliens fame, Michelle Rodriguez of Fast and Furious Fame and Zoe Saldana of New Star Trek fame and Sam Wothington one of the more notable male stars, the cast is solid, throw in James Cameron as director and this potential blockbuster box office hit could beat its directors earlier offering of Titanic. Now there’s a thing!

Critics as per usual are spread across the board on this one, some don’t like big budget films, some don’t like action intensive films, and some again don’t like animations, and you could say some aren’t keen on James Cameron but the overall average consensus is …this is a pretty decent film, and worth seeing just for the groundbreaking special effects which could mark the way forward for future film offerings…..and that if anything has to be given credit?

There is a strong environmental message in this film and it comes in 2D and pioneering 3D version called Stereoscopic 3D. Production Time frame quotes vary on this film but actual production time is rated as 4 years. Thats 4 years of agonising and painstaking attention to hair splitting detail which have gone into the making of this film, and you could say this is Cameron’s baby.
He said in an interview at the premiere “We all deeply care that Avatar is well received – but even if it isn’t I don’t think we will have wasted four years of work” . We are inclined to agree. If we had to rate this film as we did in the past we would be looking at 3.5 stars plus out of 5, it’s got strong characters, storyline, and a strong message and it is involving and will appeal to anybody from age 2 to 102.
Film ratings may be making a comeback in 2010 on this site but reserved for decent productions such as this one! Extensive guest list on this one sample names below.

Current favourite movie is an older one called Fight Club starring Brad Pitt and Helena Bonham Carter. A bit on the edge and a boundary pusher thinking just that bit outside the box.
