Cheryl Cole did her live performance on X Factor on Sunday. What to wear to dress to impress must have been one of the main items on the agenda. Sheer body suit, split low hung silky black trousers, military style jacket and hat was the choice and she stole the show on appearance! Her performance was rumoured to be a pre-recording prior to the event but a swift change of plans right before the show was to opt for live but not as we know it!
She sang “Fight For This Love” which is out this week and decided to perform live but with the backup of pre-recorded vocals, which is called in the trade a “voice over”, quite common in high energy dance routines where the lead singer has to move around a lot, but is still frowned on in purist circles as it is not 100% live.
Girla Aloud bandmates minus Nadine Coyle along with husband Ashley Cole were in the audience giving support and the judges of course were looking especially closely including non other than Simon Cowell.
Cheryl wisely chose to sing before the other live act Whitney Houston as she knows vocally even at 46, Whitney aka “The Voice” is in an altogether different league, there’s just no comparison. Performance wise we would say as per the headline she was visually stunning. Vocally as we have said on many occasions there are some shortcomings . Cheryl knows this, her fans know this, Girls Aloud know this…… and Leona Lewis she is certainly not!
But here’s the thing, with the huge fan and nation following she has at present, this lady is on a major media roll. No1 is a strong possibility based on media status alone. Only threats at present are Michael Jackson’s “This is it” and Alexandra Burke currently at No1 with “Bad Boys” and Robbie Williams at No2. These could all cause problems.
After the performance Simon Cowell said “That was incredible an routine, great performance and unfortuantely you’re going to be No1 next week”
So Cheryl took the political middle road, avoiding a pre-recorded Britneyesque showdown and miming and avoiding the embarassment of a possible not so good full live performance. The voice over was choice ensuring good media coverage in the press although the mime finger was still being pointed by quite a few fans. Everybody is now watching what happens to this song chart wise. We will know next week!
