The 17th Annual ESPY Awards were held on July 15, 2009  at the Nokia Theatre LA Live
Los Angeles, it was a taping with the event being boradcast on Sunday. There was just a bit of a turnout for this one, and the extensive guest list is featured below. Serena Williams who was nominated for Best Female Athlete, didn’t win an award for her recent grand slam wins, putting her 1 step away from being one of the all time greats the same as Billie Jean King, ESPY fan voters thought otherwise, she grabs the headline none the less!

The ESPY Awards hosted by the US cable sports channel of the same name honours sports stars for their performances with various awards and is perfectly timed to fill the awards season “lull” during the summer. It’s a good event for celebs from outside of sport to mingle with the sports stars of today and all time. Nastia Liukin below won the Best Female Athlete Award.
