Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince had its World Premiere at The Odeon, Leicester Square on 7th July, and the less said about the weather the better, but it looked to be a Transformers 2 Premiere all over again. Emma Watson grabs the headline, she looked the part and managed to pull it off even with brolly in hand declining a brolly assistant. This is a dark film and it was a dark premiere! Emma Watson. Despite the rain the stars turned out for this one with some British Household names in attendance including Daisy Lowe of Model Fame, Lorraine Kelly of GMTV, Myleene Klass who is everywhere, and not forgetting the lady herself JK Rowling, without her this film series would not be possible. All the cast were there and full list is below:

Daisy Lowe, Daniel Radcliffe, Danielle Bux, Danielle Lloyd, Emma Watson, Gordon Ramsay, Helena Bonham Carter, J.K. Rowling, Lorraine Kelly, Pixie Geldof, Tana Ramsay, Myleene Klass

The Plot:
In December 2007, Warner Bros. released its official plot summary:
Emboldened by the return of Lord Voldemort, the Death Eaters are wreaking havoc in both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that new dangers may lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. He needs Harry to help him uncover a vital key to unlocking Voldemort’s defenses critical information known only to Hogwarts’ former Potions Professor, Horace Slughorn. With that in mind, Dumbledore manipulates his old colleague into returning to his previous post with promises of more money, a bigger office and the chance to teach the famous Harry Potter.

Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry’s long friendship with Ginny Weasley is growing into something deeper, but standing in the way is Ginny’s boyfriend, Dean Thomas, not to mention her big brother Ron. But Ron’s got romantic entanglements of his own to worry about, with Lavender Brown lavishing her affections on him, leaving Hermione simmering with jealousy yet determined not to show her feelings. And then a box of love potion-laced chocolates ends up in the wrong hands and changes everything. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof with far more important matters on his mind. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.

The Verdict
The cast is older and more mature, and this film is a darker more monochrome version of the preceding films with its prime purpose to lay the foundations for everything for the final two installements called The Deathly Hallows 1 and 2 which are currently in the process of being filmed as we speak.
With such a long wait for this film was it worth the wait? Yes and No is the answer. You could say it is more of the same winning formula with a darker twist with a dash of comedy and some teenage love thrown in to liven things up even more, but its a lavish production with a stellar cast, acting is credible, story is J K Rowling so goes without saying and this installment is guaranteed to keep Harry Potter fans very happy indeed.
Downside considering the intended audience, less action sequences and more focus on character interaction and dark storyline. Plus side it is funny in places and “girls” and teenage love becomes intertwined with the darker elements of the film.
Another very watchable film, Harry Potter is a sort of Disney of witchcraft, the sort of films you could watch in 20 or even 50 years time, a classic in our lifetime and watchable by all age groups, something like The Wizard of Oz. Just the “more of the same” factor as good as it is, stops us marking it any higher than the following……Rating 3 stars +++++++++ but essential viewing none the less. Box Office wise should be a winner!

Current favourite movie is an older one called Fight Club starring Brad Pitt and Helena Bonham Carter. A bit on the edge and a boundary pusher thinking just that bit outside the box. Has a strong message which can vary from person to person, and has some clever subliminal layering that may be missed on the first viewing......A Classic!
