Mariah Carey at the Cannes Film Festival! Now there’s a headline that has caused a few heads to turn, but then again Mariah Carey, Diva Extraordinaire has the supreme ability to do this with very little effort where ever she goes. She is starring in a new film called Precious and her role in this film will make a lot of people think, sit up and take notice big time, it certainly has here!

Manny Pacquiao v Ricky Hatton

Precious which was originally called “Push” is based on the novel Push by American author Sapphire and is set in New York in 1987.

Precious Film Trailer:

This film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and it caused a big stir and won the top award at that event. This film has a sort of Slumdog feel about it, and also that award winning feel about it,  with the key word being “hope” and its a film about people and the overiding theme is “everybody is good at something”. With the Oprah Winfrey name tagged to this film, the films intense people focus is hardly surprising.

Mariah Carey and her role within this film is a surprise and a shock as she plays a very dowdy, plain, unglamorous social worker, you could say the exact opposite of the real Mariah. We’ve only seen her performance within this trailer but from what we have seen this looks to be a solid performance from her, and as far removed from her appearance in “Glitter” as you could get, a film that bombed both critically and in box office terms. Extraordinary choice of film for this diva, and hats off to her for taking on this role.

Ratings wise there is very limited footage of this film but from what we have seen here, this is a quality film that ticks all the technical boxes with ease. It has grit, drama, intense storyline, it tackles everyday controversial issues, is depressingly realistic and believable, has incredibly strong characters and  draws you in.  It involves you on an intense emotional level, has power that touches a raw human nerve, and is the sort of film that could stick in the mind for years to come, something like the classic “Shawshank Redemption”, and we think some form of award(s) for this film either in direction, acting or film in general cannot be ruled out, as it is most definetly of that calibre.

The sort of film that had the words “My God” muttered at this end. Those words have only been said once before in the entire history of this site of a year plus, and that was when watching Angelina Jolie in “Changeling” last year! Rating 4 stars out of 5 at present based on the limited footage………….. has the potential to go higher!

The film goes commercial later this year!
