Jennifer Aniston was at the screening of one of her new films, yet another Rom Com called “Management” with her co star in this film Steve Zahn which was held at the Landmark’s Sunshine Cinema, New York. Fair size turnout for this event but screenings tend to be a bit smaller ,more intimate and a just that bit more laid back compared to full blown premieres.

The Plot:

“Management” chronicles the chance meeting of Mike Cranshaw (Steve Zahn) and Sue Claussen (Jennifer Aniston) when she checks into the roadside motel owned by Mike’s parents in Arizona. A bottle of wine ‘compliments of management’ jump starts the cross-country journey and unique courtship between two different kinds of people who are both ultimately looking for the same thing – a sense of happiness. Mike sees something special in button downed Sue that inspires him to take a chance and hit the road to go after her. But once he reaches Maryland, he finds that Sue has no place for an aimless dreamer in her carefully ordered life. Obsessed with making a difference in the world, Sue falls back in with her punk-turned-Yogurt mogul ex-boyfriend Jango (Woody Harrelson), who promises her a chance to head his charity operations. But having finally found something worth fighting for, Mike puts his hopes against her practicality and the two embark on a twisted, bumpy, ultimately freeing journey to discover that their place in the world just might be together.

The Verdict:

Seem to remember this being showcased at the Toronto Film Festival 2008 see previous Management article for more info and a superb scene from the film which impressed us a lot here.  At that time it was so new there was only the single clip available and it didn’t even have a film distributor, but now the trailer is out and other footage , distributor and film release now on the cards, there is enough to form a full opinion.

Rom Coms are Jens thing, and she manages to shine in most of them, it really depends who she is cast with and whether that crucial chemistry is there to make the film work, essential in any Rom Com scenario.

Initial impressions of this film were a solid 4 star rating based on the very short “you can touch my butt” clip  scene an absolute classic and Jen is postively riveting in this. Unusual for a Rom Com to get a 4 star rating from us, intelligent humour and first rate acting from Jen was the phrase that sprang to mind.

Wild plot, interesting characters, interesting scenario, will these two polar oppsites ever hit it off. All looks a must see on paper, but after seeing further footage there are quite a few slapstick elements in this film, as good and as funny as they are, they do have the mark down effect of producing a slipped rating  to a more neutral 3 stars. Otherwise a very watchable film although slightly silly in places but then most comedies are.  Essential for Jennifer Aniston fans. Box office wise this may do well, should get in the top 5 with the Jen  factor in play. Rumoured to be released on May 15 according to news sources. Rating 3 stars out of 5
