Victoria Azarenka beat the current World No1 in Florida on Saturday in a 2 set straight win 6-3, 6-1 against the formidable Serena Williams in the Sony Ericsson Open Final held at Key Biscayne.

TENNIS 2009 - Sony Ericsson Open - Azarenka Beats Williams
Serena Williams was the ruler at previous events winning it 5 times previously, and she was going for the sixth, but Victoria Azarenka destroyed any hope of making that bid with a two very convinicing straight set win to topple this formidable opponent and claimed victory to win the Sony Ericsson Open 2009 Trophy.

Victoria Azarenka defeats Serena Williams in the Final at the Sony Ericsson Open
Serena Williams played the game with a taped leg and was struggling to return Azarenkas powerful serves, her own serves were not up to her usual “speeding bullet” standards and failed to make any impact in the Azarenka camp, it was clear Serena Williams was struggling and not on good form and was very much a shadow of her former self. Throughout the whole tournament leading up to the final, the Williams performance was less than sparkling, but despite this loss, Serena Williams retains her World No1 ranking now for the tenth week.

Victoria Azarenka the rapid rising star now as a result of this event will climb further into the Top 10 and will be ranked No8 in the World, and is a player we are watching closely, as she is now rubbing shoulders with some of the worlds highest ranking and established players.
