Gemma Arterton and “The Boat That Rocked” Film Premiere, London

With a director like Richard Curtis who directed Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones’s Diary and Notting Hill and Â an all star line up with female stars including Gemma Arterton, January Jones, Emma Thompson with other stars including Kenneth Branagh, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rhys Ifans, and Nick Frost amongst others, on paper this has got to be a must see.

With Leicester Square taking on a 60’s look with dangling vinyl, 60’s look girls with loads of mascara and mini dresses it was all happening in Leicester Square and The Boat That Rocked kept up the latest wacky themes running on Brit Premiere’s at the mo!

Stars that attended the event included some of the cast including Talulah Riley, Gemma Arterton, Kenneth Branagh, Â Rhys Ifans, Bill Nighy and Nick Frost and otherÂ non cast guests included Sir Paul McCartney, Jane Seymour, Geri Halliwell and Simon Pegg.

The Plot:

This comedy film is all aboutÂ ”Pirate Radio Stations” and one in particular Radio CarolineÂ which were all the rage in the 60’s and 70’s and 80’sÂ in an effort to get round government radio station licencing regulations, decided to take to the sea in rusty old boats in order toÂ broadcast their radio stations in effect legally as they were not on British soil. The Boat That Rocked with this all star cast delves into what actually went on inside those boats, what its like being a DJ, how they coped with all those female admirers (the toughest part of the job) and the dealings they had with government ministers and things certainlyÂ did ROCK.Â

Verdict:

A must see for those who are fans of any one of the mentioned stars in the all star cast list, a very English style film with an English style humour leaning slightly to the drier side of things with a few slap stick moments, its a bit different to what is out there at the moment. Pre Reviews are reasonable, and we are leaning towards a reasonable film, just too many stars in this film for our liking which tends to dilute each ones presence and impact and makes things a bit too busy, and makes the film look a bit smug, which we have marked down on. Rating 2 and half stars out 5 but a fun watch and star extravaganza with plenty of romping all the same! Box office could be interesting?
