Leona Lewis and NEW Westfield Shopping Complex Opening, London

Westfield as most Londoners know opened yesterday and the stars were there with Leona Lewis  providing live performances after the 9am opening. Vanessa Feltz was also their along with the Mayor of London Boris Johnson. Many other stars also attended including Yasmin Le Bon who opened House of Fraser and Dannii Minogue opened the Next store and The Sugababes were behind the counters at the Boots store.

This is a monumental development that is billed as the largest inner city shopping complex in Europe and is the start of a new trend to move malls or shopping complexes  into cities instead of “out of town” leading to all shoppers deserting the high streets. It’ s been 10 years in the development and construction. Estimated cost £1.6billion. This complex has provided a whopping 7000 jobs!

It features 265 shops, a designer village featuring names such as Tiffany & Co, Mulberry, Gucci, Prada, Christian Dior and many more, some there now, some due to arrive in the run up to christmas.

We were there yesterday  to check things out and it was heaving. There was a live fashion show being held in one of the main galleries which  size wise would equate to a football pitch. Thundering sound system and stunning models, they really pushed the boat out for this one and the place rocked.  Food wise there are 47 eateries with food from every corner of the globe and there’s also a cinema complex. There is 5 star hotel standard concierge, US style valet car service and loads of other nice touches.

Minor niggles are where’s the map to find your way around, and a bit of colour wouldn’t go amiss, everything is dentist white and chrome, but our verdict…………….definetly worth a look on a cold winters day.
