The Brothers Bloom Film Details:
The Brothers Bloom is a 2009 caper film written and directed by Rian Johnson and stars Mark Ruffalo, Adrien Brody, Rachel Weisz, Zachary Gordon, Nora Zehetner and Rinko Kikuchi.
Plot summary:
The world’s greatest con men, the Brothers Bloom, have made a living off of swindling millionaires with complex scenarios of lust and intrigue. Stephen (Ruffalo) and Bloom (Brody), and their silent partner and sidekick Bang-Bang (Kikuchi) team up for one last job, conning beautiful heiress Penelope (Weisz) by taking her on a tour of the world and relieving her of US$2.5 million. On the way, Bloom (who has no first name in the entire movie) falls for Penelope, which complicates the con severely.

Verdict:
From what we’ve seen here and clips elsewhere this looks like a film to see, it’s billed as a crime caper style film with light comic undertones and this film had us smiling from the off. With some recognisable names in this film including established Coltrane, Brody and the academy award winning Rachel Weisz this has some decent acting credentials. The director Rian Johnson is a relative unknown with 1 other lower budget film to his name called “Brick” which was also a film of the criminal variety.
Reasonable storyline, good characters, reasonable direction, crime and cons within cons, some romance near the end, laced with some light if slightly silly laughs, beautiful locations and backdrop, it’s a sort of light hearted rocknrolla without the geezers and the hard violence.
It’s not earth shattering stuff in critical and technical terms, lacks a bit of depth, but Rachel Weisz for us makes this film, her acting within this film is spot on, which is important as she is the focal point of the film. Without her the rating would be quite a bit lower. The film achieves its crime caper billing and objective with ease. The Brothers Bloom will appeal to a wide audience. Box office wise a bit of a wild card. Worth a look. We like! Rating: 3 stars out 5

Current favourite movie is an older one called Fight Club starring Brad Pitt and Helena Bonham Carter. A bit on the edge and a boundary pusher thinking just that bit outside the box. Has a strong message which can vary from person to person, and has some clever subliminal layering that may be missed on the first viewing......A Classic!
